Work consists of decommissioning roads no longer needed for administration or public access in the Elkhorn Mountains on the Helena and Townsend Ranger Districts, Helena National Forest, Jefferson and Broadwater Counties, Montana. Townsend District work will involve placing rock barriers at 8 sites, contouring short sections of 3 roads, scarification of short sections of 4 roads, and installation of 4 metal gates. On the Helena District, project involves treating 30 different road prisms totalling about 14 miles. Two miles will be converted to trail width, eight miles scarified or recontoured, and the remaining prisms would be barricaded using natural materials (boulders). All disturbance will be seeded; contractor will not be required to purchase seed. A prebid showing of the sites will be held in early September, 1999.
