703-302-6772 The Foreign Service Institute provides language training
and testing to employees of the Department of Stat and other government
agencies in more than sixty foreign languages. The School is
responsible for the diverse and complex mission of language training
for employees of the State Department and other US Government agencies.
The School of Language Studies consists of approximately 250 technical
and professional personnel and trains and tests over 500 students at
any given time. Interested sources must be eligible to work in the
United States and be educated native speakers of the language they
intend to teach. Individuals should possess the cultural background of
the specific country or geographical region required. Must have spent
their formative years in the cultural environment and have been
schooled there through the equivalent of American secondary school.
Preferably the instructor will have lived and/or worked in the specifid
language and cultural environment for at least 24 months in the past
ten years, with at least twelve months of continuous residence
preferred. Individuals should be experience language professionals with
a demonstrated record of managerial experience. The Foreign Service
Institute is seeking interested sources for a wide variety of training
work schedules or occasional, intermittent training activities. The
settings within which the training is conducted include large and small
group classrooms many of which are equipped with video cassette
recording and playback capabilities; audio laboratories, including
multimedia workstations equipped with audio tape recorders, videotape
recorders, videodisc players, CD-ROM drives; an Internet lab; testing
rooms; and a Library. A typical class may have one to six students,
although groups may range up to twenty. Please send expressions of
