E-MAIL: Betty J. Burg, betty.j.burg1@jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for one (1) CyberTouch System, CG 1802-L with 6-point vibro-tactile feedback. (Part Number: CT1802-L) and one (1) CyberGrasp, CG2202-R with 5-finger force-feedback device (Part Number CGRU2202-R). This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/JSC intends to purchase the items from Virtual Technologies, Inc. Both devices will be used to support telepresence development in support of the Robonaut project. Teleoperation of a remotely located robot requires that the operator perceive the robot's environment as if the operator was actually in the robot's place. Force and tactile feedback gloves permit the robot operator to feel contact forces applied to the robot's fingers. Virtual Technologies, Inc. is the only known company producing high resolution force and tactile feedback gloves for teleoperator applications. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have ten (10) days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the ten (10) days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
