Purpose of contract is to provide research on responses of pelagic-stage loggerhead turtles to light sticks and gangions used in longline fisheries. Proposed contractor's principal investigator has published more than 20 papers on sensory biology and orientation behavior of sea turtles in first-rate, peer-reviewed scientific journals. FAU's lab has also developed computerized tracking system that monitors movements and orientation of sea turtles under lab conditions. FAU's principal investigator also only known source that published extensive series of papers inveestigating how sea turtles respond to diverse sensory cues, and also has lab group experienced in working on behavioral research of sea turtles.
