Kendrick, Contracting Officer, (540) 983-1048 The VA Medical Center, Salem, Virginia will issue Solicitation No. IFB 658-26-99 o/a July 28, 1999. The Contractor shall provide all labor, tools, equipment, materials, transportation and qualified supervision to perform asbestos abatement and correct fire and safety deficiencies in various areas throughout the Medical Center. Asbestos abatement includes pipe insulation, painted roofing, floor tile and demolition of a metal-skinned quonset hut building. Correction of fire and safety deficiencies includes window demolition/brick-up of openings; additional fire alarm devices; installation of partitions, ceilings, doors/hardware and painting; chemical fire-extinguishing system for the main computer room; installation of exterior handrail/guardrails; installation of remote activated solenoid natural gas valve and expansion of existing nurse call system. This procurement is unrestricted and SIC 1542 applies. Solicitation packages may be obtained by written request to the attention of the Contracting Officer(90C2) at the above address. Requests must contain a non-refundable bid deposit of twenty-five dollars ($25) and be in the form of a Cashier's Check or Money Order. Company checks will not be accepted. A pre-bid conference will be held o/a Monday, August 16, 1999 and all potential bidders are strongly encouraged to attend. Detailed information on the conference will be contained in the solicitation package. A bid guarantee is required. Construction is estimated to be between $100,000 and $250,000.
