NIH/NIDA/IRP in Baltimore, Md. requires Affymetrix GeneChip arrays
(MU6500 SET containing 20 antisense arrays: 5 x mu6500 sub a,b,c,d
arrays)for the Affymetrix GeneChip expression analysis monitoring
system. This system is used for finding and studying genes related to
drug abuse. Probe arrays capable of detecting expression levels of
detecting 5-10 thousand human or murine genes will be required for
genetic studies related to drug abuse research. It is essential that
each probe cell have 10 or greater copies of a given probe to be able
to detect low levels of expression. NIDA/IRP studies the structure and
regulation of genes involved in nervous system function and drug
action. These effects are on specific neurotransmitter systems such as
the dopaminergic or opiatergic systems. The purpose of this project is
to find a gene or genes related to drug abuse, determine how that gene
is affecting the addictive process and ultimately design new
pharmaceutical agents for treatment of drug addiction. The Molecular
Neurobiology Section has purchased a GeneChip Analysis System from
Affymetrix Inc. which will allow us to search large portions of human,
murine, and yeast chromosomes for genes which are involved in drug
abuse. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items
