The work consists of converting the existing basewide fire main distribution system from lake water to municipal water supplied by the Town of Natick, Massachusetts. Demolition work will be performed on selective equipment in the existing pumping station that draws lake water from Lake Cochituate. The existing elevated water tank shall be isolated from the system and abandoned in place. A connection to the existing 10-inch water main, presently providing potable water to the base, will be made to supply the separate basewide fire main distribution system. Two backflow preventers, isolation valves, piping and associated equipment shall be installed at the connection to the existing water main. A new precast concrete building shall be installed to house two backflow preventers and associated equipment. The new building shall be provided with power, lighting, and heat. Two new 10-inch underground water mains shall be installed to supply city water to the existing absewide fire main distribution system. The estimated cost of the work is between $100,000.00 and $250,000.00. Work shall be completed within 180 calendar days after receipt of a notice to proceed.
