66 -- APEX FLOATS SOL NRMGD000902158SLW DUE 081399 POC Sharon Walker 816-426-7267 x241 The U.S. Department of Commerce, NOAA intends to procure 11 APEX Floats. These floats will be used to determine ocean salinity and temperature profiles and subsurface ocean current circulation patterns during a two year experiment in the subtropical Atlantic Ocean. The floats shall be capable of operating for a minimum period of 2 years deployment. Following deployment, the float shall descend to a nominal depth of 1000 meters. It shall remain at this depth for 10 days, and then ascend to the surface where it shall remain for a period of 24 hours. This cycle (10 days submerged, 1 day on surface shall be repeated for the entire life of the float. The geographic position of the float while on the surface must be capable of being computed by Service ARGOS from the float transmissions to the satellite. The vendor must have previously demonstrated the performance of their design by having delivered at least 1000 floats meeting the specifications. This is not a small business set-aside.
