The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) intends to solicit proposals for unique and innovative proposals from a broad range of education and research professionals to develop and implement Earth system science education programs targeted for kindergarten through post doctoral levels. The Earth Science Enterprise (ESE) is NASA's contribution to developing a vastly improved understanding of the Earth by capitalizing on the unique vantage point of space to provide information about the Earth's air, land, water and life -- and the interactions among them. This approach to studying the Earth as an integrated system is referred to as Earth system science. The ESE Education Program (http://www.earth.nasa.gov/education/) seeks to strengthen and expand the program's impact on a national basis, particularly for the minority, underrepresented and disadvantaged populations. This announcement solicits proposals in several categories including: in-service teacher enhancement; pre-service teacher enhancement; student enrichment; curriculum support/resources; digital Earth education scenarios; and unique and innovative education and outreach projects. The NRA will be available electronically on the release date, via the Internet at the Earth Science Enterprise ''Home Page'' at ''http://www.earth.nasa.gov'' under ''Research Opportunities'' or via anonymous ftp at ftp.hq.nasa.gov/pub/ese. A paper copy will be available to those who do not have access to Internet by calling (202) 358-3552 and leaving a voice mail message. This announcement will be open for the period from June 29, 1999 through August 30, 1999, and proposals may be submitted at any time throughout that period.
