The US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) at Warren,
Michigan will issue a request for proposal to support the DoD
Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) Program. This contract will be
funded with ManTech funds and cost sharing is required; for further
information regarding the ManTech program visit
http://mantech.iitri.org. The contract objectives are to perform
manufacturing technology tasks intended to reduce or eliminate the risk
of transitioning Composite Armored Vehicle technology to the full-rate
production of the Crusader self-propelled howitzer turret shell and
re-supply vehicle structures. The scope of work will seek: a) cost
effective automated fabrication of full size, full geometry preforms,
b) scale-up of the vacuum assisted resin transfer molding process to
Crusader sizes and geometries with 100% yield in the infiltration
process, c) net shape ceramic armor tile integration, d) a single,
integrated lay-up and cure process with adoptive, self-directed cure,
and e) real-time intrinsic process control and quality assurance. The
proposed acquisition will be full and open competition and will be
evaluated and awarded on a best value basis. Estimated release date of
the solicitation is 30 July 99; estimated closing date is 17 Sep 99.
No solicitation exists at this time; check the TACOM-Warren Acquisition
Center website for notification that the solicitation is ready for
