304/285-5883 The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
(NIOSH), in Morgantown, WV has a requirement for Engineering Services
for Production Ready Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Ranging
Evaluation Sub-systems. This project is for radio frequency (RF)
microwave direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) expertise to complete
the design, document, and deliver production ready designs to the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC)/National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health (NIOSH) of a 2.4 GHz license free DSSS transmitters
and DSSS receivers to be used to obtain ranging and positioning
information inside buildings in support of the Health Effects
Laboratory Division (HELD), Engineering Controls Technology Branch
(ECTB) Local Positioning Project. Working units for both the
transmitter and receiver shall also be delivered in quantities
specified by the government. The receiver unit, battery(ies), and
associated antenna will be worn by personnel in various workplaces, and
therefore must be miniature andwithin safe radiation levels.
Transmitters shall be portable units that will be used at fixed,
surveyed reference positions for the duration of R & D studies. Designs
shall comply with all applicable United States laws, rules, and
regulations. Design reviews at naturally occurring functional
milestones shall be conducted either at the contractor site, or by
phone to allow CDC personnel to gain insight and understanding of the
design, as well as to provide any relevant feedback. The entire scope
of work, specifications, drawings and evaluation factors are addressed
in the solicitation. Request for Quotation RQ99-028 will be issued
unrestricted on or about June 16, 1999, and proposals will be due o/a
July 7, 1999. Organizations interested in receiving a copy of the
