National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) proposes to
negotiate on a sole source basis contract under the authority of 41
U.S.C. 253(c)(1) with Rixan Associates, Inc, for a 6-axis positioning
system. The specifications are as follows: 1) 6-axis vertically-
articulated robotic arm. Each axis having absolute-reference optical
encoders, servo motors with harmonic drives, adaptable for a pneumatic
handset (end effector) or custom end effector. 2) Accuracy and
repeatability: approximately plus or minus 0.01mm (translation) and
plus or minus 0.01 degrees (rotation). 3) 4kg payload at full load/full
extension, maximum speed 5800 mm/second at full load/full extension,
reach 634 mm, workspace greater than 200 mm x 200 mm x 200 mm, maximum
rotation greater than 45 degrees. 4) Machine envelope: height
approximately 1 meter, diameter approximately 1.2 meters. 5)
Controller: 20 inputs, 16 outputs, expandable to 60 inputs, 48 outputs,
RS232 computer access, remote keypad (teach pendant) with =93deadman=94
switch. 6) Necessary cabling and electrical connections. 7) This
product should be available =93off the shelf=94 (not custom). One year
parts and = labor warranty. Comprehensive training (32 hours) for one
operator. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13,
Simplified Acquisition Procedures. This synopsis is issued for
information only. No competitive solicitation is planned. No award will
be made on the basis of = requests in response to this notice.
Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to
determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this
requirement would be in the Government's best interest and must
