VAMC Alexandria Contracting Office intends to negotiate a sole source procurement with LifeShare Blood Center, 1521 Wilkinson Street, Shreveport LA with branch office in Alexandria for human blood, blood products and related testing services for VA Alexandria and Shreveport LA. This is a requirements contract with estimated quantities and is authorized by FAR 6.302-1. Combined products include approximately 2600 units packed human red blood cells, 150 cryoprecipitate, 1000 FFP, 500 pooled platelet concentrate, antibody ID and cross match, antigen group and type all required testing to assure safe products. VA Alexandria and Shreveport have a combined total bed count of 238 with a 190-bed nursing home facility at VA Alexandria. Delivery time is critical. Pickup of specimen for testing may be required with as little as 1-hour notice with 2-hour delivery of suitable blood for transfusion. Blood must be 100% volunteer donor blood from a blood bank meeting as a minimum all national and state laws and requirements including registration and license from FDA, Dept of Health and Human Services, American Association of Blood Banks and other associations and accreditations to ensure safe blood products and related services. Contract period is August 1, 1999 through July 31, 2000. There is no other known source for these products in the time required.
