COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 14,1999 PSA#2346AT-MACHINE ACCEPTANCE OF METAL SPUN PARTS Sandia National Laboratories
(Albuquerque, New Mexico) is interested in developing the technology
for at-machine acceptance of metal spun parts with the goal of reducing
QA costs for safety critical hardware. This hardware would typically be
used for storage and shipping containers. The technology would build on
Sandia experience with on-machine acceptance of machined components,
process modeling, sensors, and data manipulation and visualization. Key
to this technology will be simultaneous measurement of both machine
operating and material response parameters. Sandia may use computer
modeling to aid in interpretation of on-machine measurements and
acceptance decision-making. Sandia is looking to partner with a company
interested in becoming a supplier to DOE for prototypes, small lot
production (1-5 parts total) and traditional production (generally less
than 200 parts per month and less than 10,000 parts total) of metal
spun hardware. The technology is expected to be valuable in promoting
the use of metal spun hardware for defense, aerospace and other high
quality-sensitive applications. The partner would be expected to
contribute at least $250k over an 18 month period in in-kind support
comprising sharing of expert knowledge, use of existing tooling and
machinery, test part development and manufacture, factory floor
implementation trials and some travel. Technology developed by this
partnership will be jointly owned by the DOE and the partner company.
Companies interested in this partnership opportunity are requested to
respond by mail or FAX to Sheila Pounds by May 27, 1999 at: Sandia
National Laboratories, MS 1380, PO Box 5800, Albuquerque, NM
87185-1380. FAX: (505) 843-4163. Please indicate the date and title of
this CBD notice, a listing of company capabilities and a description
of how the in-kind contribution requirement will be met. Partner
companies must be willing and able to sign a Cooperative Research and
Development Agreement with the DOE. E-MAIL: Sheila Pounds,
