This phase of the project will reshape and deepen the following portions of San Juan Harbor (other portions of the channel were modified during Phase I). The Army Terminal Channel will be widened by 50 feet and deepened from a depth of 36 feet to a depth of 40 feet. The Army Terminal turning Basin will be deepened from a depth of 36 feet to a depth of 40 feet. The Anegado Channel will be narrowed to create a constant channel width of 800 feet and deepened from a depth of 36 feet to a depth of 40 feet. The Bar Channel will be reconfigured and deepened to consist of seven cuts with stepped depths as follows: Cut-1A (56 feet); Cut-1B (51 feet); Cut-2 (51 feet); Cut-3 (49 feet); Cut-4(46 feet); Cut 5 (46 feet); and, cut-6 (40 feet). With the exception of Bar channel Cut-1A which will not require any dredging, all of the above channels will be dredged to their new project depths plus two additional feet of required dredging plus two feet of allowable overdepth dredging. Prior to dredging the Bar Channel, the removal of debris from five (5) separate areas will be required. Excavation of rock from the Bar Channel Cut-1B, Cut-2, and Cut-3 will require drilling and blasting. These improvements will require the dredging of approximately 4,058,000 cubic yards of material. The dredged material will be placed in the approved ocean dredged material disposal site (ODMDS) located approximately 4.5 miles from the project site.
