Morrison, dmmorrison@mail.arc.nasa.gov. NASA/ARC plans to issue a
Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a refrigerated ultracentrifuge to be
used for separation of subcellular components and for preparation and
analysis of purified proteins from tissues and bacterial preparations.
This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition
Procedures (SAP). NASA/ARC intends to purchase the items from Bechman
Instruments, Inc., under the authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304(c), based on
capability of centrifugation speeds of up to 600,000 x g and with very
accurate speed and temperature controls. Unique features should
include: 1. A programmable controller permitting delayed start and run
times. 2. A vacuum encased drive mechanism which provides extremely
accurate speed changes. 3. An imbalance-tolerant drive which allows for
slight differences in tube volumes, permitting rapid sample loading. 4.
An accurate peltier thermoelectric cooling mechanism that doesn't
require frequent maintenance, drive oil, or chlorofluorocarbons. 5. A
power failure recovery mechanism that allows a run to be resumed
regardless of rotor speed once power is available. 6. The drive
mechanism permits compatibility with rotors currently used at Ames. In
addition, this acquisition will require the trade-in of a used Beckman
L5-65 Ultracentrifuge. The Government intends to acquire a commercial
item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 8 days from the
publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified
point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such
qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of
determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive
basis. Responses received after the 8 days or without the required
information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will
not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete
this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon
responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the
Government. Oral communications arenot acceptable in response to this
notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be
considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See Internet
