COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 30,1999 PSA#2313NINTH NATIONAL HIGH-POWER MICROWAVE (HPM) AND RADIO FREQUENCY (RF)
ELECTROMAGNETICS SYMPOSIUM The Air Force Research Laboratory, Directed
Energy Directorate, Kirtland AFB, New Mexico and the Association of
Old Crows will present the Ninth High Power Microwave Symposium May
11-13 1999 at the Steve Schiff Auditorium, Sandia National
Laboratories, Kirtland AFB, NM. Dr Patrick Vail, AFRL, will chair the
Symposium, Dr Al Kehs will be the Vice-Chair, Capt James Powell, Naval
Postgraduate School, will chair the Technical Program Committee and Dr
Malcom Buttram, Sandia National Laboratories, will chair the Steering
Committee. The Symposium is the only joint tri-service and Department
of Energy national conference for the exchange of ideas and technical
information in the HPM area. The theme will be: "HPM: Striving to
Protect the Nation." The format will be similar to HPM8 beginning with
General Officer overviews of national policy and the implications of
HPM for National Security. Topics will include: HPM Threats to US
Infrastructure: Intelligence and Threats: HPM Applications Concepts and
Integration;Sources and Components-Tubes, Slid State and Antennas;
Sources and Components-Pulse Power; Modeling and Simulation-Sources and
Effects; Effects-Components, Hardening and Biological; Effects-Systems
level; Export of HPM Technology Overseas and, finally, Applications
and Systems. Papers will be presented from a diverse spectrum of
interests including law enforcement, potential military users,
industry, universities, policy makers, and scientific/engineering
institutions. Attendees will have the opportunity to informally tour
some HPM facilities on Kirtland AFB. The SECRET/US ONLY Symposium will
prove to be the most interesting conference of 1999 for those
examining the issues involved in using or defending against HPM DEWs
