LB. BOMB BODY The U. S. Army Industrial Operations Command has arranged
a Presolicitation Conference on Wednesday, April 28, 1999 (8:30 AM
Pacific Time) at the Hyatt Regency Irvine Hotel, 17900 Jamboree Road,
Irvine, CA, regarding the Cast Ductile Iron BDU-50B/B 500 lb. Bomb
Body. The Bomb Dummy Unit (BDU) general purpose practice bomb body
assembly, P/N 4512201, NSN: 1325-01-458-5885, is approximately 60 in.
long, 10.750 in. in diameter, 0.500 in. nominal wall thickness, and has
an assembled empty weight of approximately 265 lbs. This is an inert,
non-explosive item, and no loading of explosives or inert material is
involved. The assembled bomb body consists of eight components: the
bomb body casting, two steel lug inserts, two plastic lug insert
protectors, steel base and nose plug, and a plastic nose thread
protector The primary component is the bomb body casting, which has a
nominal machined weight of approximately 255 lbs. The casting material
specification is ASTM A536 Grade 60-40-18 cast ductile iron. The
casting must meet both destructive and non-destructive test and
inspection requirements. First article, pre-production, and production
rate sampling requirements are identified for the casting and the
assembly. This conference has been scheduled in anticipation of the
issuance of Request For Proposals (RFP) DAAA09-99-R-0086 for a quantity
of approximately 30,000 each, with a 100% option, restricted to U. S.
and Canadian producers. For more information, including the relevant
