Solicitation when/if available, http://www.ssa.gov/oag. E-MAIL:
Contracting Officer, SSA/OAG, LESLIE.HYMAN@ssa.gov. The Social Security
Administration (SSA) is seeking vendors to remotely rebuild its current
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 servers and workstations. The remote building
process may need to be applied to any number of the existing 1,742 LAN
sites on an as-needed basis. A solution-based response is required
which will function within SSA's network architecture. The network is
bridged Token Ring, managed from the SSA headquarters National Computer
Center (NCC) site in Baltimore, MD. The NCC site is connected by T-1
lines to seven regional domains, which are connected to approximately
1,800 field sites by 56 kbps leased lines. Each site contains one or
more Local Area Networks (LANs). Each LAN consists of two or more
servers (a BDC and an SMS Server) and up to 200 workstations. The two
servers are in separate domains. The BDC is a member of one of the
seven regional domains; the SMS is a member of the Enterprise Network
Management (ENM) domain. The ENM domain contains only system management
servers. The solutionmust provide for management and initiation of the
rebuild process across SSA's network from either headquarters or a
regional site. The desired solution must have the capability to rebuild
an existing Microsoft NT 4.0 server and/or workstations to a
SSA-provided configuration. SSA has different configurations based on
site and function. Individual user names, profiles (which are roaming),
settings and data on the file servers must be saved and restored. The
rebuild process cannot disrupt routine office functions. Therefore, the
rebuild process must be administered only during off-hours. Rebuilding
of any systems, servers or workstations must occur as a single
operation. The solution identified may be based on technical support,
programming, Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software, hardware or any
combination thereof necessary to meet SSA's requirements. Existing SSA
tools available for use in this process include a server tape back-up,
Microsoft SMS, and a CD- ROM drive. All interested vendors should
provide detailed information, including product identification, product
literature and associated manpower support estimates. All documentation
must be submitted to the contact listed above by March 30, 1999. No
solicitation document exists and requests for copies of a solicitation
will not be accepted. No telephone requests will be accepted. Posted
