NASA/GSFC plans to issue Request for Quotation (RFQ)5-23141-988 for quantity one: digital sun sensor This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GSFC intends to purchase this item from Adcole Corporation. This item must be identical to the current sun sensor head. We intend to contract with Adcole Corp. due to their familiarity with the existing design and the need for the two sensor heads to be compatible. In order for the two sensor heads to be used jointly on the spacecraft, they must share the same support electronics. Only Adcole Corp. has an understanding of those electronics and their interaction with the sensors to be able to design another head that can be placed into the existing system. Therefore, Adcole Corporation is considered to be uniquely qualified to provide this sun sensor head. The Authority is 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), Only One Responsible Source. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Notes 22 and 26. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
