A -- ADVANCED INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) SOL 10-00007 DUE 051899 POC Mr. Granville Paules, Lead Technologist, Phone (202) 358-0706, Fax (202) 358-2769, Email gpaules@mail.hq.nasa.gov -- Mr. Steven A. Smith, Advanced Information Systems Program Mgr, Phone (301) 286-7336, Fax (301) 286-2756, Email steven.a.smith@gsfc.nasa.gov WEB: Click here for the latest information about this notice, http://nais.nasa.gov/EPS/HQ/date.html#10-00007. E-MAIL: Mr. Granville Paules, gpaules@mail.hq.nasa.gov. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) seeks both the Earth Science and Information Technology communities comments and inputs concerning advanced information systems for the Earth Science Enterprise (ESE). The ESE acquires, processes, and delivers huge volumes of remote sensing and related data to public and governmental entities for use in understanding and solving major problems in the Earth Sciences, such as global change, environmental monitoring, agricultural inventory, etc. Information technology is currently employed throughout the ESE's space and ground systems, end-to-end, from on-board satellite data acquisition, through space-to-ground transmission, ground-to-ground networks, data capture and processing centers, and ending with distribution and analysis by end-users. The ESE is interested in advanced information technology that can improve any of these functions in isolation or in combination, or is able to support alternative architectures that better address the scientific requirements of the ESE. Information references will be provided which describe the ESE next series scientific measurement requirements, next generation data and information systems architecture, and far term ESE Vision. The suggested subject categories are: (1) Data Collection Process, (2) Transmission, (3) Data and Information Production, (4) Discovery and Analysis, (5) Systems Management, and (6) Infrastructure. The RFI will be available electronically on the release date, via the Internet at the Earth Science Enterprise home page at http://www.earth.nasa.gov/ under "Research Opportunities", and then "NRAs Currently Available", or via anonymous ftp at ftp.hq.nasa.gov/pub/ese. A paper copy will be available to those who do not have access to Internet by calling (202) 358-3552 and leaving a voice mail message. This announcement will be open for the period from March 17, 1999 through May 18, 1999, and proposals may be submitted at any time throughout that period. Posted 03/02/99 (D-SN303758). (0061)
