NIST Contracts Office, Contract@nist.gov. The National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate with
Spectra-Physics Lasers, Inc., 1344 Terra Bella Avenue, Post Office Box
7013, Mountain View, CA 94039-7013 on a sole-source basis for the
following service agreements: (1) Platinum On-Site Maintenance
Agreement for Spectra-Physics Model 2045E-20/5.0S argon ion laser
(plasma tube has unlimited hours coverage); (2) Platinum On-Site
Maintenance Agreement for Spectra-Physics Model 2030T-20 argon ion
laser (plasma tube has unlimited hours coverage); and (3) Platinum
On-Site Maintenance Agreement for Spectra-Physics Model 2030-15 argon
ion laser. Each agreement shall cover travel, labor, and parts
(excluding consumables), and shall include two preventive maintenance
visits and ECO reliability updates. In addition, all consumables shall
be replaced during the P.M. visits. Period of performance shall be
from April 1, 1999 through March 31, 2000. The Government intends to
solicit one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b),"Soliciting
from a single source," because Spectra-Physics Lasers is the only known
source with the technical expertise and replacement parts availability
necessary to provide on-site service, which is required to prevent
long periods of equipment downtime. This notice of intent is not a
request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received
within 15 days of the publication date of this synopsis will be
considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to
compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is
solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received
will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining
whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Written responses shall
contain sufficient documentation to establish a bona fide capability to
fulfill the requirement. A solicitation is not available. Posted
