61 -- NSTX HIGH VOLTAGE TRIAX CABLE AND TERMINATION KITS SOL RFP No. 99-038-F POC Larry Sutton, telephone (609) 243-2441, fax (609) 243-2021 E-MAIL: Click here to contact the RFP Coordinator via e-mail, lsutton@pppl.gov. Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) requires 1000 feet of Triax cable, to be divided into three (3) cables each about 320 feet installed, together with six (6) termination kits (one for each cable end) to connect the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) device to a neutral beam with three sources that will be used to heat plasmas generated by NSTX. One end of each cable will be terminated at a high voltage enclosure (HVE), the other at a modulator-regulator. The cable supplier shall furnish all supervision and labor required for on-site termination, and shall supervise the "high pot" tests of the installed cables. PPPL will furnish the labor and equipment to perform the installation of the terminated cables. The cable must have rated dielectric strengths as follows (conductors designated 1, 2 and 3, with conductor 1 innermost): conductor 1 to conductor 2, continuous at 50 KVDC, momentary (50 seconds) at 100 KVDC; conductor 2 to conductor 3, continuous at 150 KVDC, momentary (50 seconds) at300 KVDC. The net conductor area minimum for each conductor is 60,000 centimeters. Conductor material must be copper. The cable outer jacket high pot withstand voltage minimum is 20 KV. The cable maximum bending radius is 36 inches. The maximum capacitance per foot, center conductor to shield, is 31 PFD. The cables will be used in a pulsed-voltage mode. The maximum voltage from shield to center conductor will be a pulsed 120 KVDC. The middle conductor will operate at 70% to 90% of the center conductor voltage to outside conductor return, and will be pulsed simultaneously with the center conductor. The nature of the load is pulsed; the pulsed load currents are 70 A maximum in the center conductor and 5 A maximum in the middle conductor. The maximum pulse length is 5 seconds; the maximum repetition rate is one pulse every 150 seconds at maximum power. In operation, the power is switched onto the source end, with a rise time of 20 microseconds, minimum. The source end termination shall be plug & socket, andbe mounted vertically (either end up must be allowable) in an air insulated unit. The dielectric strength of the plug and socket must be rated the same as the triaxial cable. The plug and socket must be isolated from the enclosure so as to withstand 10 KV minimum. The load end termination will be plug & socket in an sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)-filled enclosure with the SF6 under a minimum pressure of 28 psi gauge (42 psi absolute). The dielectric strength of the plug and socket must be rated the same as the triaxial cable. The plug and socket must be insulated from the enclosure so as to withstand 10 KV minimum. All cables will be installed indoors, in an ambient air temperature ranging from from +40 degrees C to +20 degrees C, with a relative humidity of 0-55 percent. The cables may be constructed with a drain wire, or without the drain wire but with an NEC Type MC aluminum armor with a 0.075 inch-thick polyethylene jacket. This announcement is not a Request for Proposals (RFP). The RFP will be issued on or about March 9, 1999. Interested parties should contact the RFP coordinator via e-mail or fax.
