This project consists of modifying four channels and construction of a new levee. Excavation is estimated to be approximately 170,000 cubic meters of existing levee and creek banks. The material is primarily clay. Fill for construction of the new levee is approximately 70,000 cubic meters and will be taken from the excavated material. Approximately 100,000 cubic meters of the excavated material will be required to be hauled off site to specific disposal areas. Two grouted riprap weirs will be demolished and one grouted riprap weir approximately 30 feet wide will be constructed. Several three to four foot culverts will be installed at various locations throughout the project area. Modified channels will be planted with various wetlands species and erosion control vegetation. Contractor will commence work 10 days after notice to proceed (early June 1999) and will have until February 2000 to complete the final aspects of the work. The estimated cost range is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000.
