Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National
Institutes of Health, intends to negotiate with The Jackson Laboratory
to provide a secondary, pathological screen of ears from hearing
impaired mice identified in the primary ABR screen under Contract No.
N01-DC-6-2108. This secondary screen will consist of whole-mount and
cross-section preparations of the inner ears of those mice identified
as hearing-impaired in the primary screen. Authority: 41 U.S.C.
253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1. Inherent duplication of cost to
the Government and unacceptable delays in completing the project make
competition unfeasible for this secondary screen. See Numbered Note 22.
