The Department of Energy's (DOE), Federal Energy Technology Center seeks cost-shared proposals for new fundamental and applied research that will advance the state-of-the-art of mid-to-high temperature (500 C to 1100 C) fuel cell technology. The solicited research will range from atomistic modeling to applied materials work focusing on the cathode, electrolyte, integrated component performance, and sealing material concepts for mid-to-high temperature fuel cells without respect to any specific fuel cell geometry or type. Proposals must demonstrate that the results of the work will result in improved fuel cell economics. It is intended that any research resulting from this PRDA will be available for technology transfer. The objective of this PRDA is to support fundamental and applied research that will contribute to development of the specified components for the FETC 21st Century Fuel Cell Program and industrial mid-to-high temperature fuel cell designs that are capable of being commercialized within adecade time frame. This solicitation does not seek proposals that either duplicate current or past research efforts or would achieve insignificant improvements to existing fuel cell technology. The results of these research and technology developments should be made available to the public domain for use in developing competitive mid-to-high temperature fuel cell designs. This PRDA will only be available via Internet and will not be distributed in paper form. It is anticipated that solicitation DE-RA26-99FT40206 will be accessible as a Word Perfect 6.1 (Windows) document or in the Portable Document Format (PDF) on the World Wide Web (WWW) at http://www.fetc.doe.gov/business/solicit/index.html on or about March 26, 1999 and that the closing date for submission of proposals will be May 10, 1999. Those who obtain a copy of the solicitation through the WWW should check the location frequently for any amendments. Posted 02/19/99 (W-SN300067). (0050)
