The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), Dahlgren, VA is seeking potential sources and no cost product samples of non-developmental submunitions for use in a 5"/62 projectile. The submunition should be approximately 1.2 inches in diameter and have a stack height of approximately 2 inches. The submunition fuze should have at least two separate safety features, at least one of which prevents arming until exposed to launch forces of setback or spin. Two different fuze designs are required for the same submunition body. One of the fuzes should operate in a spinning environment (18,000 rpm maximum). The other fuze should operate in a non-spinning environment (20 rpm maximum). Fragments produced by the submunition body should have a mean weight of at least 5 grains. Six non-loaded metal parts sets and related information will be required from all interested sources at no cost to the Government. The product samples will be loaded by the Navy and assessed to ensure the design satisfies theUS Navy minimum requirements. Proprietary data must be marked as such, on a page-by-page basis and will be kept confidential and protected where so designated. Evaluation of product samples will take approximately six (6) months. Product samples will be destroyed during the evaluation. This announcement is not a Request for Proposals nor does the Navy intend to pay for any information or items submitted in response to this synopsis. It is anticipated that a solicitation for a Firm Fixed Price contract with a base quantity of 250,000 units will be issued in FY00. Suppliers capable of furnishing these items should respond in writing no later than 12 March 1999, and include in this response a body drawing with dimensions.
