NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for 100 Each of the Following: Temperature, pressure and relative humidity radiosonde balloon sensors conforming to the World Meteorological Organization s RS-80-15GE specifications and produced by Vaisala. Each unit must include an ozonesonde interface kit and be updated for a Global Position Sounding receiver. These instruments will be used for NASA LaRC s SAGE III validation activities at established internation measurement sites. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Vaisala Inc., the only known source capable of providing the support required for validation studies for NASA s Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE) III Satellite Sensor study. SAGE III is part of NASA s Earth Observing System and will provide critical measurements of ozone and aerosol needed to understand climate change. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item usingFAR Part 12. Interested firms have 15 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit a bid package, i.e. price, delivery in writing to the identified point of contact, and their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
