Information. 311th Human Systems Wing, Human Systems Program Office
(311 HSW/YA) is seeking INFORMATION from potential sources, about
improving performance or replacing the AN/URT-33 Radio Beacon currently
in use. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL NOR DOES THE
GOVERNMENT INTEND TO PAY FOR ANY INFORMATION RETAINED BY 311 HSW/YA.
This synopsis does not commit the Government to award a contract.
Information will be used in developing a performance specification for
future competitive procurement by this office. The beacon is a first
alert device that activates upon separation from a disabled aircraft,
and transmits a swept tone signal at 243 MHz. Approximate dimensions
are 4.8 X 2.5 X 1.2 inches. Opportunities for improved performance
include: ability to transmit on 121.5 MHz (civil emergency), 243 MHz
(military emergency), 245 MHz (training), and 406.025 MHz
(COMPAS/SARSAT); ability to operate normally and unassisted during
parachute descent and after touching downon land or water; features to
impair an adversary's ability mimic its signal. Beacons should be
reparable by a commercial source, compatible with existing means of
activation (magnetic plug assembly or remote cable and switch
assembly), and interface with existing parachute harnesses, survival
vests, and survival kits. Companies may submit information pertaining
to some or all of the suggested opportunities for improved performance.
Responses should be submitted by 15 Mar 99. Interested companies should
indicate whether or not they are a small, small disadvantaged, 8(a), or
large business. Respondents must clarify if their firm can provide
commercial or non-developmental items that could be modified to meet
311 HSW/YA's needs. Please address all technical questions to Captain
Mike Stephens at (210)536-4925, fax (210)536-4563, e-mail
