structural steel in support of the renovation of an existing building
into a facility housing the Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry from the
NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland to the Frederick Cancer Research and
Development Center. SAIC Frederick, the Operations and Technical
Support Contractor for the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Frederick
Cancer Research and Development Center (FCRDC), anticipates a
requirement for structural steel and installation services to be
included in the renovation and upgrade of an existing building in order
to house the Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry currently located in
Bethesda, Maryland. SAIC Frederick intends to assign the resulting
subcontract for the structural steel and installation services to the
general contractor for continuity of services once construction has
commenced (est. May 1, 1999). Acquisition of the structural steel and
installation services is being conducted early in the schedule due to
anticipated long-lead times of the items sought. Providers of
structural steel and installation services are encouraged to send a
letter of interest to the individual as provided below no later than
1/15/99. The work includes, but is not limited to, engineering and
detailing shop drawings for fabrication and erection of structural
steel, shop fabrication and field erection of the steel, including
field quality control. The engineering shall be performed by a
Professional Engineer, registered in the state of Maryland, who is
experienced in providing engineering services for structural steel
framing of multi-story buildings. Fabrication shall be by a firm which
participates in the AISC Quality Certification Program and whose plant
is designated a Category I AISC-Certified Plant for conventional steel
structures. Field erection shall be performed by qualified personnel,
certified under AWS D1.1, and shall be inspected by the professional
