A -- HYDROCARBON SENSOR FOR CONTINUOUS IN-SITU WATER QUALITY MONITORING AND SPILL SOL CBD114 DUE 121798 POC Michael J. Leavitt WEB: Idaho National Engineering & Environmental Laboratory, http://www.inel.gov/procurement/litco/index.html. E-MAIL: Michael J. Leavitt, mjl@inel.gov. A -- HYDROCARBON SENSOR FOR CONTINUOUS IN-SITU WATER QUALITY MONITORING AND SPILL DETECTION. Contact Mr. Michael Leavitt. Potential technology development and licensing opportunity with LMITCO, the prime contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). LMITCO has developed a hydrocarbon sensor concept designed to detect low levels of hydrocarbon emulsions; hydrocarbons floating on water as a layer or sheen and hydrocarbons that are heavier than water. The sensor will produce a signal that will be compatible with industry standard input/output connections. The design is simple and does not require spectral or optical detectors. The device will be compact, non-intrusive, easily installed and integrated with existing equipment or structures. It will also be easy and inexpensive to maintain. Intended applications are for facility or site installations that will benefit from unattended, in-situ, real time monitoring and alarm notification. Examples of application include spill detection, leak detection, secondary containment monitoring, and process monitoring. Municipalities, manufacturing and oil & gas facilities are a few examples of potential user. The device will respond to low or high concentrations of hydrocarbons by generating a continuous signal and/or triggering at any preset value. In most hydrocarbon field monitoring situations, it is important to immediately know when a threshold limit is exceeded. This information can then be used to notify personnel or activate other equipment such as valves and pumps. LMITCO is soliciting a written indication of interest from industry partners who would consider funding collaborative technology development and or entering into a license agreement for the purpose of developing and commercializing this technology. License terms will include an up-front licensing fee and a running royalty based on a percentage of sales. This is not an opportunity to provide goods or services to LMITCO or the Department of Energy. This Request for Interest (RFI) will close to responses 30 days after publication. Interested parties should send a description of their company and their ability to commercialize this technology to the address below.
