COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 21,1998 PSA#2205SP -- NOV 12 SECOND ULTRA LONG DURATION BALLOONING TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP
November 12, 1998 Second Ultra Long Duration Ballooning (ULDB)
Technology Workshop, Greenbelt, Maryland. ULDB is an extremely
promising new approach to provide very low cost access to space. To
fully exploit the potential of this concept, new technology is required
for support systems such as trajectory control, recovery, and
instrument pointing. This workshop will present these new requirements
and summarize opportunities in the NASA technology development
programs to seek funding. Goddard Space Flight Center is developing a
technology roadmap for the ULDB program which will summarize currently
available technology and outline NASA technology development programs
that are in progress. Crosscutting and related NASA technology
development programs will also be summarized. The goal of this workshop
is to encourage potential innovators with new ideas to propose balloon
technology that will greatly enhance science opportunities in space.
