Roudebush VA Medical Center is interested in sources who can provide 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (8 hours/day, 40 hours/week) Orthotist/Prosthetist for the Orthotics Lab in the Prosthetic Treatment Center at the Indianapolis VAMC. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: (1) Provide independent management, quality control and production of the Automated Manufacturing of Mobility Aids (AFMA) program. The AFMA program is computer software and computer-controlled machinery that has been developed expressly to facilitate the design and fabrication of prostheses and orthoses. The CAD/CAM is part of AFMA. Tehcnical expertise to run this program is required, (2) Serve as subject matter expert for this Medical Center and Veterans Integrated Service Network #11 (VISN 11), (3) Maintenance of all quality controls with the AFMA program for this facility and VISN 11, (4) Provide services/production for prosthetic items within VISN 11 and possibly with non-VISN 11 medical centers,(5) Independent maintenance of all inventory necessary to maintain the AFMA program, including emergent situations, (6) Maintain database concerning the AFMA program and provide information to VISN 11 management, (7) Application of fracture cast orthoses in the surgery and post-operative under sterile conditions to facilitate early recovery and discharge, (8) Instruct patients in wearing and maintaining orthotic/prosthetic devices, (9) Fabrication and modification of negative molds using a variety of casting materials, and (10) Possessing an understanding of the proper use of medical, prosthetic and orthotic terminology.
