(SSA) is seeking to identify responsible vendors that can provide and
support commercial off- the-shelf Tape Control software that will
register, track, copy and record data of expired magnetic tape media
received from non- SSA sites and will also record and report
identifying criteria associated with the shipping of SSA created output
files. This software will be installed on mainframe equipment located
at SSA's National Computer Center, Baltimore, Maryland. At a minimum,
the Tape Control software must have the following
features/capabilities: (1) be compatible with OS/390 operating system,
Control-M Scheduling Software and the Federal Express Powership2
System Software; (2) have the capabilities for an online panel facility
that gathers information required for the registration of non-SSA tapes
and cartridges; (3) be capable of validating entered information for
syntax and edit for standard compliance; (4) build and maintain a file
of profile data to be used as baseline reference for non-SSA files;
(5) create a record of each magnetic tape received consisting of
baseline data from the profile plus additional information entered by
the operator at the time of receipt; (6) assign a unique tracking
identifier plus maintain a slot assignment scheme for vaulting of all
received tapes; (7) have reporting capabilities on information
contained in the profiles and tracking tables; (8) automatically
generate job control language streams that will effectively copy
incoming tapes to SSA media (tape or DASD) as specified in the profile
and invoke the actual copy job; (9) be Year 2000 compliant and (10)
include full documentation and technical support. Any organizations
possessing the requisite products expertise and resources are invited
to submit information concerning their capabilities, experience, and
other pertinent data (including GSA contract information) within 15
calendar days from the date of this publication. Any literature, or
information submitted as a response to thisnotice, must contain enough
information attesting to the capability of a product offered to meet
SSA's requirements. The Government does not intend to pay for any
information provided. This is a request for vendor product information
