This procurement will provide for a consortium of Navy libraries to provide access via the World Wide Web to Ei CompendexWeb. This database contains citations, abstracts, and summaries of journal articles, technical reports, conference papers and proceedings. Ei CompendexWeb uses Cuadra Associates STARWeb software, which provides it with the point and-click ease and forms-based interface common to the WWW environment. Experts can search by using Boolean or proximity operators and truncations. SPAWAR plans to award a sole source contract to Engineering Information Inc. (Ei), 1633 Bayshore Highway, Suite 301, Burlingame, Ca 94010. Ei is the publisher of the world's most comprehensive interdisciplinary engineering reference tools. The WWW version of its abstracts database available directly from Ei has a total number of 3,000,000 records. In June 1998, Engineering Information Inc. added electronic access to the full text of 600 key Elsevier technology journals cited in its Ei CompendexWeb, and push-to-e-mail technology to its alerting services.
