U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) requires an estimated quarter-man-year of support providing non-personal service as a senior advisor with experience in technical areas of concern to USSOCOM. The advisor must have a doctoral degree in Engineering and must have served in an advisory role to other military commands. The advisor must possess an expert working knowledge in electronic safing and arming systems, since they are used extensively in SOF unique demolition devices. An expert working knowledge of fuzing systems for mortars, artillery rockets and bombs is required. Specific knowledge of power sources, both chemical and non-chemical, is required to enhance system adherence to Mil-Std-1316. He/she must have a working knowledge of Special Operations Forces equipment, such as radios, transmitters, receivers, man-powered generators and training devices as applied to the soldiers worn MILES harness system. He/she must also have a long-term experience of military systems having contributed to these systems by means of patents, published reports and the manufacture of physical hardware. Traveling will be required. Estimated issue date of RFQ is October 15, 1998. Anticipate due date October 30, 1998.
