66 -- MOLECULAR EPIDERIOLOGICAL SYSTEM SOL 73-98 DUE 092998 POC Mary Welch, Purchasing Agent 515-239-8415 The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, National Animal Disease Center has a requirement to purchase a Molecular Epideriological System. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This solicitation is being issued as Request for Quotation (RFQ0 #73-98. This solicitation document and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 90-46. This solicitation is under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP) and is a Small Business-Small Purchase Set-aside. The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code is 3826 and the Business Size Standard is 500 employees. This will be a Firm-Fixed price contract. CLIN 001 The items you are offering must meet or exceed the following salient characteristics: 1. Integrated system for epidermiological analysis of bacterial samples including pulse-field gel electrophoresis system, gel documentation system, and workstation compatible with CDC approved software for DNA restriction fragment pattern analysis and data base comparison. 2. Pulse-field system: (1) On board algorithm capable of handling multiple variables such as : fragment size, switch time, switch time ramp, pulse angle, voltage gradient, run time, agarose type, agarose %, buffer type, buffer concentration, and temperature. (2) Interactive algorithm operating on PC or compatible. (3) Ability to customize >10 field vectors per block, each vector definable by a voltage, angle, and duration. (4) Allows 1-8 blocks (of repeating vectors) per run. Automatic change from one block to the next. (5) Electronic variation of the pulse angle from 0-360 degrees. (6) Linear and non-linear switch time ramps for linear separations. (7) Ability to perform voltage or angle ramps. (8) Ability to sense changes in the conducting environment and adjust voltages accordingly to maintain uniform fields. (9) Multi-usercapability. (10) Battery back-up of set parameters and user programs in case of power failure. (11) Temperature probe that directly measures buffer temperature. (12) Variable speed pump 3. Gel Documentation System: (1) High resolution camera capable of imaging DNA down to 0.1 ng. Samples can be visualized by real or integration time. (2) Large imaging area, (3) software compatible with either PC or MAC computers and compatible with CDC recommended Fingerprinting DST software for analysis. (4) Ability to import TIFF images for analysis and data export to spreadsheets and desktop publishing systems. (5) Positive and negative image enhancement capabilities.
