Welch, Purchasing Agent 515-239-8415 The U.S. Department of
Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, National Animal Disease
Center has a requirement to purchase a Molecular Epideriological
System. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items
prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as
supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This
solicitation is being issued as Request for Quotation (RFQ0 #73-98.
This solicitation document and incorporated provisions and clauses are
those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 90-46. This
solicitation is under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP) and
is a Small Business-Small Purchase Set-aside. The Standard Industrial
Classification (SIC) code is 3826 and the Business Size Standard is 500
employees. This will be a Firm-Fixed price contract. CLIN 001 The items
you are offering must meet or exceed the following salient
characteristics: 1. Integrated system for epidermiological analysis of
bacterial samples including pulse-field gel electrophoresis system,
gel documentation system, and workstation compatible with CDC approved
software for DNA restriction fragment pattern analysis and data base
comparison. 2. Pulse-field system: (1) On board algorithm capable of
handling multiple variables such as : fragment size, switch time,
switch time ramp, pulse angle, voltage gradient, run time, agarose
type, agarose %, buffer type, buffer concentration, and temperature.
(2) Interactive algorithm operating on PC or compatible. (3) Ability to
customize >10 field vectors per block, each vector definable by a
voltage, angle, and duration. (4) Allows 1-8 blocks (of repeating
vectors) per run. Automatic change from one block to the next. (5)
Electronic variation of the pulse angle from 0-360 degrees. (6) Linear
and non-linear switch time ramps for linear separations. (7) Ability
to perform voltage or angle ramps. (8) Ability to sense changes in the
conducting environment and adjust voltages accordingly to maintain
uniform fields. (9) Multi-usercapability. (10) Battery back-up of set
parameters and user programs in case of power failure. (11) Temperature
probe that directly measures buffer temperature. (12) Variable speed
pump 3. Gel Documentation System: (1) High resolution camera capable of
imaging DNA down to 0.1 ng. Samples can be visualized by real or
integration time. (2) Large imaging area, (3) software compatible with
either PC or MAC computers and compatible with CDC recommended
Fingerprinting DST software for analysis. (4) Ability to import TIFF
images for analysis and data export to spreadsheets and desktop
publishing systems. (5) Positive and negative image enhancement
capabilities. (6) Built-in MW determination and concentration analysis.
