The model 686 Lan meter provides the ability to connect directly to fast ethernet (100Base TX) networks and monitor and diagnose problems enterprise wide. This meter utilizes SNMP and RMON agents embedded in network interconnect devices such as bridges, routers, and switches. Additionally, this upgrade includes the SwitchWizard option which will provide visibility to diagnose in switched environments including the ability to access forwarding tables and also identification of the Virtual LAN (VLAN) to which a specific port has been assigned. The ability to perform Internet Protocol (IP) configuration of the Enterprise LAN meter using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or BootP and the ability to identify numerous problems such as duplicate IP address detection, incorrect subnet mask identification and incorrect IP addresses for the locally attached segment on Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) based networks is included.The Enterprise LAN meter incorporates a NetBIOS test suite to enable the user to determine if any problems exist in Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups or Windows 95 network environments. It also provides web-enabled access which supports a centralized network management philosophy by providing access to troubleshooting and analysis information from a remote location.
