COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 10,1998 PSA#2177EQUIPMENT, TRAINING AVAILABLE FOR SOUTHERN CALIF. MANUFACTURERS The
U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Export Administration (BXA)
invites small- and medium-sized manufacturers in Southern California to
take advantage of an unique opportunity. BXA, in partnership with the
City of Long Beach, the State of California, and the Oak Ridge Centers
for Manufacturing Technology, has initiated an innovative program to
reutilize the surplus equipment at the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard
for the benefit of the local business community. Under this pilot
effort, called the Manufacturing Empowerment Zone (MEZ), your firm
could lease time or train employees on some of the $200 million
inventory of surplus equipment at the Shipyard. Some of the equipment
will also be made available for purchase. This is an excellent
opportunity to enhance your firm's competitiveness! Interested firms
will be asked to complete a short survey, which will collect
information on such topics as firm size; growth projections; markets;
employee training practices and requirements; and specific equipment
needs. BXA will use this information to identify the pieces of
equipment requested most frequently by local firms and match this list
with the equipment inventory. To participate in this exciting
initiative, contact Brad Botwin: phone 202-482-4060, fax 202-482-5650,
or e-mail at bbotwin@bxa.doc.gov to request a survey. E-MAIL: Click
