A -- DATA COLLECTION FOR 166 BILE DUCT CONTROLS SOL RFQ80219(NQ) DUE 091698 POC Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent, (301)402-4509 & Todd Cole, Contracting Officer The Environmental Epidemiology Branch, Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, National Cancer Institute plans to procure the research services of the Shanghai Cancer Institute, 2200/25 XIE TU Road, Shanghai, China 200032. Background Through a previously awarded NCI contract, the Shanghai Cancer Institute has been involved in a study to identify risk factors for cancer among people from China. Specifically, the Shanghai Cancer Institute has been involved in studying biliary tract cancer among 166 patients selected from the urban region around Shanghai. The Institute has been involved in collecting bile, stones, tissues, urine, and blood from these patients. Through testing, risk factors are being identified from the samples. Project An additional group of 166 patients is now needed to serve as a comparison group to the biliary tract cancer study. Similar to the ongoing study, bile, stones, tissue, urine, and 20 ml of blood, along with some background information, will be collected from otherpatients from Shanghai with biliary duct stones. These subjects will serve as a comparison group for patients with bile duct cancer in the NCI-China collaborative case-control study of biliary tract cancer. Since the Shanghai Cancer Institute has strong affiliations with a network of clinics and health care organizations around Shanghai and it currently is involved with the NCI-China collaborative case- control study of biliary tract cancer, it is the only known source who can meet the requirements of this extension, including recruiting other people from Shanghai and maintaining the reliability of the data between the comparison group and the original study group. If any interested party believes it can perform the above work and maintain the reliability of all data, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform this requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 3:00 p.m. EST, on September 16, 1998. If you have any questions, please contact Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent on (301) 402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Posted 08/28/98 (W-SN243191). (0240)
