A -- VISIBILITY, FINE PARTICLE MONITORING NETWORK OPERATION, NATIONAL PARK SERVICE SOL RP235099001 DUE 110298 POC Jim Clark, Contracting Officer, (303) 969-2755 The National Park Service (NPS) proposes to award a five year cost reimbursable contract for the expansion, operation and maintenance of its nationwide IMPROVE (Interagency Monitoring Of Protected Visual Environments) fine particle monitoring network. The purpose of this contracting effort is to deploy and service equipment, analyze samples for mass and elemental concentrations (hydrogen and sodium through lead) and optical absorption, to coordinate analyses of samples for certain ions and carbonaceous material, to establish and conduct an internal quality assurance program, to conduct inter-laboratory comparisons, and to prepare summary analyses of all particulate data including ions and carbonaceous material. This network, which was established by NPS in 1981, currently consists of 69 stations located in NPS, U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lands. It will be expanded to approximately 108 sites under this contract. The NPS will occasionally also need assistance with the deployment of special purpose monitoring for short-term studies, enhancements, and methods and equipment development.
