COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 31,1998 PSA#2170Director, USAMRAA, 820 Chandler St, Fort Detrick, MD 21702-5014 A -- TREATMENT FOR SKIN INJURY ASSOCIATED WITH EPIDERMOLYSIS BULLOSA
(EB) SOL CBD&&&98080002 DUE 110498 POC Patricia M. McAllister,
301-619-7360 The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command
announces a Request for Proposals to augment the Army's in-house
scientific endeavors at improving the survivability of soldiers in
chemically-contaminated environments. A requirement exists to better
understand the mechanism of blister formation following exposure to
blistering agents, e.g., sulfur mustard (SM). The pathophysiology of
SM-induced injury appears to be similar to that produced by some
variants of the naturally occurring disease epidermolysis bullosa (EB).
The studies will elucidate the mechanism(s) of vesicle and bullae
formation and possible treatment for underlying skin injury associated
with EB. The contract will include writing protocols and conducting
tests to identify the physiological processes involved, and to
investigate preventive measures and treatment strategies. Protocols,
studies, and reports shall comply with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines and applicable
government guildines. Proposal guidelines are contained in the U.S.
