Liem T. Nguyen, Contract Specialist, 301-496-6546 The BioEngineering
Consortium (BECON), Office of Extramural Research, Office of the
Director, National Institutes of Health, intends to procure on a sole
source basis specialized conference management services from Prospect
Associates, 10720 Columbia Pike, Suite 500, Silver Spring, MD 20901, to
assist with planning and conducting the NIH BECON Biomedical Imaging
Symposium to be held at the Natcher Conference Center on March 22-23,
1999. The BECON hosted a successful Symposium titled Bioengineering:
Building the Future of Biology and Medicine on February 27-28, 1998 for
the following purposes: Identify grand challenges in biomedical
research that can benefit from bioengineering approaches; Define the
role of bioengineering in future advancements in biomedical research;
Determine how to integrate bioengineering with biological research to
meet those challenges; Show case accomplishments of NIH-funded
bioengineering researchers; Increase the visibility of bioengineering
to the NIH intramural research community; Increase the visibility of
bioengineering to the extramural biomedical research community;
Increase the visibility of bioengineering to the NIH leadership and
staff; and Make recommendations to the NIH for areas of future
investment. Because of the success of that Symposium, NIH BECON decided
to hold yearly Symposiums which would be focussed on a specific area in
Bioengineering. The focus for the next symposium is Bioimaging.
Prospect assisted the NIH BECON in the planning and conducting the
first symposium. The knowledge and specialized experience that Prospect
