The purpose of this project shall be to: (A) implement and document a hearing loss prevention program for two (200)hundred carpenters at the Southwest Ohio Carpenters' Joint Apprenticeship Training Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, and (B) periodically observe and record study participants' use of personal hearing protector devices at work sites in the greater Cincinnati area. NIOSH will solicit two (200) hundred volunteers for this project of whom fifty (50) will also be observed as they use hearing protection at their work sites over the two and a half years of the project. All volunteers will receive initial assessments, training, hearing protector fitting with a specialized hearing test (fit check) to verify actual protection received, and audiometry. All volunteers will receive repeat assessments, training, hearing protector fit checking, and audiometry at the one-year and two-year anniversaries of the project. All data will be prepared for submission to NIOSH, including the results of the subject observations. Requests for the RFQ must be in writing only.
