STAKEHOLDER COMMITTEE MEETINGS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY
VERIFICATION'S ADVANCED MONITORING SYSTEMS PILOT The National Exposure
Research Laboratory (NERL), Office of Research and Development (ORD),
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), Research Triangle
Park (RTP), North Carolina 27711, and Battelle, Columbus, Ohio, are
partners in an Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) pilot for
Advanced Monitoring Systems (AMS). The goal of ETV is to verify the
performance characteristics of commercially ready environmental
technologies so potential purchasers and permitters are provided with
an independent and credible assessment of the technology they are
buying or permitting. The AMS pilot is focused on verifying air, water,
and soil monitoring technologies. Battelle has established stakeholder
committees for air and water monitoring technologies. The air and
water stakeholder committees are comprised of 25-30 representatives
from federal, state, and local environmental and regulatoryagencies;
trade and professional associations; business and investment companies;
and other organizations. The role of the stakeholders is to provide
input from various perspectives on implementing the verification
program through the duration of the AMS pilot. At the first meeting of
these two committees, held February 24-25, 1998, at Battelle, 505 King
Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43201, members identified and prioritized air
and water monitoring technology needs, reviewed a Request for
Technology (RFT) form used to invite vendors to submit their
technologies for verification, and recommended criteria for use in
evaluating RFTs. The second round of meetings of the air and water
stakeholder committees will be held separately in September 1998 at the
following times and places: Water Stakeholder Committee, September 10
and 11, 1998; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. Location: Seattle
Airport Hilton, 17620 Pacific Highway South, Seattle, WA 98188-4001.
For additional meeting information, contact Todd Peterson, Battelle;
phone 206-528-3274; fax 206-528-3552; e-mail peterts@battelle.org. Air
Stakeholder Committee, September 16 and 17, 1998; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
on both days. Location: Four Points Hotel by Sheraton/O'Hare Airport,
10249 W. Irving Park Rd., Schiller Park, IL 60175. For additional
meeting information, contact: Gretchen Hund, Battelle; phone
206-528-3338; fax 206-528-3552; e-mail hund@battelle.org. Committee
members will review a generic protocol for evaluating air and water
technologies, consider possible schedules for testing technologies
submitted by vendors discuss other monitoring needs, and plan for
issuance of the next RFT. The meetings are open to the public but space
is limited. To register or for additional information about the
stakeholder meetings, contact Mr. Peterson or Ms. Hund at the numbers
listed above. For general information about the AMS pilot, contact Ms.
