Contract Office, Contract@nist.gov. The U.S. Department of Commerce,
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Center for
Neutron Research has a requirement for the replacement of in-pile guide
tubes for the cold neutron guides NG-1,2,3,4 and NG-5,6,7 located in
the Reactor Building, Gaithersburg, Maryland. The in-pile guide tubes
are required to be made of selected silicate glass with all faces of
the guide tubes to be coated with Ni 58. Ni 58 will be supplied by
NIST. Specific requirements are: (1) The guide element shall be
machined and glued according the Government's specifications; (2) The
guide tube shall possess a reflectivity of at least 99% (average value
between zero and the critical angle). The substrate shall be polished
to provide the required reflectivity; (3) The coating is required to
show no degradation in performance in temperatures up to 100 degrees
Centigrade; (4) The coating is required to be permanently bonded to the
glass substrate with sufficient adhesion to resist removal by Scotch
tape (3M brand #810). -- Quantity, One set of guide tubes -- F.O.B.
Destination, Gaithersburg, Maryland -- Delivery 240 Days after contract
award. -- A firm fixed price contract is anticipated. -- It is the
government's intent to procure these guide tubes from Compagnie
Industriele des Lasers (CILAS), Orleans, France, the only responsible
source that can satisfy the agency's requirement. -- See Number Note 22
