ADVANCED DATA STORAGE TECHNOLOGY Advanced Data Storage Technology: AFRL/IF POC: Jerry Nethercott; 315-330-4104. The DASD/C4ISR and SAF AQIJ has sponsored a working group under the DCGS Infrastructure IPT, to define a standard for interoperability and data exchange for Advanced Data Storage Technology (ADST). The ADST WG is seeking information and recommendations from both US and NATO data storage industries, system prime contractors and users, on the current State of the Art and appropriate standards removable memory unit interoperability. The intent is to leverage commercial developments for off the shelf memory technologies, that provide high data rate, high capacity, high reliability, affordable recording systems for high stress environments, in Tactical Reconnaissance and Signal Data collection applications. The ADST WG has prepared a "white paper" which provides initial guidance for development of an ADST Standard. This white paper is available upon request for review and comment. All comments and recommendations are required NLTCOB 9 September 1998 and will be reviewed by the working group. Organizations submitting comments will be invited to participate in a Technical Exchange Meeting (TEM) in late October 1998. A summary of the ADST WG status will be provided at that time and participants will be allowed time for presentation of standardization recommendations. Open discussions of issues will occur at the completion of the presentations. Results of this meeting will be applied to a draft ADST Standard, for broader dissemination within the government. Responses shall include the time frame for providing a demonstrable system that meets the requirements of the white paper. The anticipated market niche and operating environment (trade space) for the ADST shall be identified. Recommendations for supportable values to replace the "TBDs" in the white paper are requested. The format for responses shall be as follows; Specific comments and recommendations for the stated requirements and TBDs shall be provided first, and shall follow the sequence and paragraph numbers of the white paper; Recommended additions and/or concerns shall be provided second; Comments on the environmental limits, life cycle cost and long term reliability of the technology presented shall be provided last. Total response shall not exceed 14 pages. The required attributes that the ADST Standard shall address are: a) Accommodation "for" non-volatile Removable Memory Unit(s) (RMU), b) Defined Data and Control/Status Interfaces, c) High Reliability in severe environments, including Tactical Reconnaissance Aircraft, d) High Speed post-mission data extraction capability, e) Rapid erasure/declassification capable, f) Corrected Bit Error Rate (CBER) better than 1x10(-12). Copies of the white paper can be obtained from SAIC DRL via phone @ 215-674-8907/FAX @ 215-674-9788 or via e-mail request ADSTWG@saic.com. Released by direction of the ADST WG Chairman, Mr. Robert Dutterer, under the DCGS Infrastructure IPT. All responses shall be sent to the ADST WG Chairman c/o SAIC DRL, 650 Louis Drive, Stuie 100, Warminster PA 18974-2843 postmarked not later than 9 September 1998. E-MAIL: Copies of the White Paper can be obtained from SAIC., ADSTWG@saic.com. Posted 08/03/98 (W-SN231636).
