COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 31,1998 PSA#21491998 MUNITIONS EXECUTIVE SUMMIT Munitions Executive Summit, September
14 -- 16, 1998, Manalapan, Florida. Change continues unabated in the
Defense Department and the Defense Industry. The Munitions Base
continues to adjust to the changes in the level of business and the
manner in which it is conducted. The challenges facing the government
and industry management increases as the need to have an adequate level
of readiness and a responsive capability runs headlong into the budget
realities. Almost two years ago a study was initiated to assess the
production base and recommend steps which might reshape the way it is
operated as opposed to allowing a free fall condition to continue.
Actions and ongoing efforts from the government/industry team which
will, hopefully lead to a more stable capability structured to operate
in this new world environment will be addressed during the conference.
The goal of assuring that the best, most effective munitions are
available for our troops where they need them and when they need them
makes this an absolutely critical subject. Mr. Paul Hoeper, Assistant
Secretary of the Army for Research, Development and Acquisition will
brief on Army Acquisition. The U.S. Army Materiel Command(AMC) overview
will be presented by GEN Johnnie E. Wilson, Commanding General(CG),
AMC. Other speakers include MG James W. Monroe, CG, US Army Industrial
Operations Command; MG Billy K. Solomon, Director for Logistics and
Security Assistance, US Central Command; MG Roy E. Beauchamp, CG, US
Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command; MG John F. Michitsch,
Program Executive Officer, Ground Combat Support Systems; and BG John
J. Deyermond, Deputy Chief of Staff for Ammunition, AMC. There will
also be an Industry Panel, Base "Adjustments" Panel, Arms/Real Estate
Management Panel and an Acquisition Trends Panel.. For a copy of the
