714-5458 The contract for Architect-Engineer (A-E) services consists of
preparation of contract documents, including drawings and
specifications, using sustainable design practices, for a New Main Post
Office of approximately 25,000 sq. ft. Within the delivery area of
Nassau/Suffolk Counties, New York. Other services to be provided
include the preparation of cost estimates, value engineering, energy
efficient design, xeriscaping, construction waste reduction, analysis
and incorporation of `green' building materials, and environmental site
planning. The new facility will provide full retail services, carrier
and mail processing, loading, and support operations. The contract to
be negotiated will be a fixed price type with an option for
Construction Contract Administration Services. The US Postal Service
reserves the right to make additional design awards to the successful
A-E firm within a three year period in the geographic area noted above.
Firms applying should be architecturally oriented with staff or
consultants in civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, environmental,
and traffic engineering. All disciplines to have experience with the
utilization of sustainable design practices. Experience with
Construction Contract Administration or Construction Management is also
required. Firms qualified to perform the services noted above are
invited to submit a completed SF-255, Architect-Engineer and Related
Services Questionnaire for Specific Project; and a completed SF-254,
Architect-Engineer and Related Services Questionnaire for the firm and
each of the proposed consultants. Firms with more than one office must
indicate on the SF-255 the staffing composition of the office in which
the work will be performed. Submissions must be made to the above
address postmarked not later than August 28, 1998. The selection will
be based on the submitted SF-255 and SF-254, an interview, and the
following order of preference: (1) Local; within the Boroughs of
Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Counties of
Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Nassau and Suffolk in the State
of New York; and within the Counties of Sussex, Passaic, Essex, Hudson,
Warren, Morris, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Burlington, Somerset,
Hunterdon and Mercer in the State of New Jersey; and within Fairfield
County in the State of Connecticut; (2) all others. Firms will be
considered local only if their sole office or a local branch office is
within the local geographic area as defined above, and all
architectural design, coordination, and management of the project will
be performed in that office. There is no restriction on the geographic
location of consultants. The contract contains a requirement for
evidence of current errors and omissions insurance. To the fullest
extent possible, the US Postal Service welcomes the participation of
women and/or minority owned/operated A-E firms. It is prohibited to pay
any fee to any person or firm contingent upon or resulting form the
award of a contract for this project. Personal visits and phone calls
for the purpose of discussing this project are not permitted. Copies of
