The project consists of the reconstruction of Independence Avenue from 17th to 23rd Streets, NW. The work includes drainage improvements, portland cement concrete base joint repairs, hot asphalt concrete pavement placement, exposed aggregate sidewalk and stone curb installation, lighting and traffic signal installation, and other miscellaneous work. Principal items of work and approximate quantities are as follows: Removal of portland cement concrete pavement, 200 mm depth, 4,500 m2; Hot asphalt concrete pavement, 9,500 t; Plain portland cement concrete pavement, 200 mm depth, 4,200 m2; 450 mm pipe culvert, 1,050 m; Catch basin, various types,50 each; Stone curb, 3,550 m; Exposed aggregate concrete sidewalk, 5,200 m2; Signal system, lump sum; Conduit, 100 mm, PVC, 3,900 m; Luminaires, type Washington Style, 166 Each; Poles, type Twin 20 light standard, 83 Each; Manhole, electrical (600 mm x 600 mm), 81 Each.
